Barbados Museums : Nidhe Israel Museum (Jewish Museum)

Barbados Jewish museum - Nidhe Israel MuseumThe Nidhe Israel Museum is located next to the synagogue in the capital city of Bridgetown.

The museum traces Jewish history in Barbados dating back to the arrival of the earliest Jews in 1628 and highlights their contribution to Barbadian society.

Exhibits at the Nidhe Israel Museum include a timeline of Jewish settlement in Barbados, artifacts and interactive displays. The building itself is quite magnificent having been originally constructed in 1750.

The museum overlooks the burial grounds and across to the still actively used synagogue.

View point on Barbados satellite mapLocated in the grounds is a full immersion Mikvah, which dates back to the 17th century and is the only known one in existence in the western hemisphere.

The museum is open 9am - 4pm, Monday - Saturday.
