Askari is a member of the Barbados Primary and Secondary School Chess (BPSSC) organisation and has been playing chess for 5 years.

His achievements include:

1st place in the 1996 Summer Chess Tournament

3rd place in the 1995 Summer Chess Tournament

BPSSC Internal Chess Champion

Tied for 4th place in United States Open Junior Chess Championships, July 1999, in Arizona.

2nd Place in Washington rapid play, 1999

1st place in the 2000 Open Junior Championship

He has recently qualified for the Barbados Men's National to be held later this year.
