KIRTON SOLE MUTUAL
LEADER
Day
three of the Mutual Open Junior Chess Championships finished
with Justin Kirton of St. George Secondary being the sole
leader on 5 points.
In an
action packed day, Kirton a former Barbados Junior Champion
cemented his grip on the Mutual Open tile wins hard fought
wins against former Olympiad Team member Olaudah Pryce of
St. Leonards Boys and his training partner Dwayne Gilkes.
Two players
closely follow Kirton on 2nd position with 4 ½ points,
these being National Junior Champion Mark-John Alleyne and
Allan Munro of Trinidad.
Both Alleyne
and Munro had good morning matches with wins against Jamel
Richards of Louis Lynch and Kevin Allman of Harrison College
respectively. However their evening game saw them paired against
each other which eventually played out to a draw giving Kirton
a vital ½ lead.
Number
1 seed Junior Taitt also had a good day, bouncing back from
his previous day's set back were he lost against Munro from
an even position. Bear the brunt of Taitt retaliation were
promising junior Nichloas Ford of St. Leonards Boys and Dwayne
Codrington.
Taitt
now sits in 4th place on 4 points with 5 other players, former
Junior King Dwayne Gilkes, Jamel Richards, Olaudah Pryce,
Lodge's Anthony Francis-Worrel and Combermere's Kofi Hind.
With 3
rounds to go, there still a lot of play left in the Mutual
Open Junior and attention will be focused the next round match
up between Kirton and Alleyne on Board 1 and Munro and Gilkes
on Board 2.
