Hike Barbados

Colin Hudson Memorial Great Train Hike

Join us as we hike the old train line from Bridgetown to Belleplaine (24 miles / 38.6 km). The hike takes place the third Sunday of February.

The "train" starts walking from the Bridgetown Terminus (now the Fairchild Street Bus Station) at 6.00 am, although some hiking groups choose to begin earlier than this official starting time. We pass through the following original train Stations along the route (remaining distance to Belleplaine noted in brackets).

"Passengers" may join and get off at any Station, or walk the whole route.

This hike is a wonderful opportunity to experience the diversity of the island. Starting in our historic capital city the walk winds its way through the countryside, still abounding with sugar cane fields, to the ruggedly beautiful east coast.

The Barbados Railway ran along this route from 1883 to 1937. Currently the Barbados Trailway Project is developing the route into an accessible pathway for walkers, runners and cyclists.
